Hemoglobin-Oxygen affinity and gas transmitters (NO and H2S) in Type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients with different asprosin contents

Abstract: Background: Exogenous-constitutional obesity is a major cause of the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. An imbalance in proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory adipokines in type 2 diabetes mellitus can be a factor contributing to a decrease the functionality of cardiorespiratory systems. The purpose of this work was to assess blood oxygen-binding properties in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients showing varying asprosin contents in their blood. This study involved patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 30 to 60 years of age, having different body masses. Methods: Asprosin concentrations in the blood, its oxygen transport parameters as well as the gaseous transmitters nitric oxide and hydrogen sulfide were determined in male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results: Along with the elevated asprosin content, the examined patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus demonstrated impaired blood oxygenation and increased hemoglobin- oxygen affinity. An elevation in the concentration of nitric oxide and a decrease in that of hydrogen sulfide were observed, which is significant for the formation of blood oxygen-binding properties and the further development of the emerging metabolic imbalance. Conclusion: When the asprosin content was high under type 2 diabetes mellitus (especially in patients with obesity), the concentration of nitric oxide was raised and that of hydrogen sulfide decreased, which was significant for the formation of hemoglobin oxygen affinity, maintenance of oxygen mass transfer to tissues and the development of metabolic imbalance.
