Abstract: On March 18th, 2022, the Senate of the EASA has elected Academician Yatchko Ivanov as a member of the Academy (class VI – Technical and Environmental Sciences). At a special solemn inauguration of the newly elected members on 02.07.2022 in the Great Hall of the University of Salzburg, the President of the Academy, Prof. Dr. Klaus Meinzer, presented a diploma for a member of the Academy to Academician Yatchko Ivanov.
The European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) is an international, non-governmental, and non-profit organization committed to promoting of scientific and societal progress. It was founded in Salzburg in 1990 and the members are leading scientists, artists, and business experts, who are dedicated to innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration as well as the exchange and dissemination of knowledge. Among them are 32 Nobel laureates.
Acad. Ivanov is author and co – author of over 300 scientific publications, 5 monographs and textbooks, 4 study guides and 13 patents. His more than 20 doctoral students are today professors in Bulgaria and abroad. Upon invitations, he lectured at world – renowned universities and scientific institutes in Europe, America, Australia and Asia. He was organizer and head of a national, later becoming international very popular school – seminar in rheology (1973 – 1994).
In September Acad. Yatchko Ivanov turned 90. He is the editor-in-chief of “Series on Biomechanics” journal and performs his functions extremely actively. Despite the difficult economic times we are in, he has established an annual scholarship for a young scientist in the field of rheology, mechanics and biomechanics. With his own funds, he finances the patriotic initiative to send the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) journal - „Journal of BAS“ to the Bulgarian diaspora in various countries. He also created and finances the National Award for young researcher in the field of mechanics.
