The level of intensity in resistance training and its effect on men with high Triglyceride (T.G.) levels
H. Shlool
Abstract: This study aims at three determining effects: 1) determine whether physical activity via resistance training can be utilised to improve Triglyceride levels and 2) determine the effect of the different resistance intensity levels, such as low, medium, and high intensity, on triglyceride levels in the blood and 3) determine the effect of resistance training levels on other physiological variables namely blood pressure, weight, resting heart rate, body mass index. The study designed a training program which was applied to a sample of individuals who suffer from higher levels of triglycerides and then employed statistical analysis to interpret the data. A sample was taken from men aged 35 to 60 years old who were selected from the capital city in Jordan, Amman. Selected 18 individuals who underwent lipid profile tests and fell within the result of T.G. =150 and above were sampled for the study. The resistance exercise training group took part in a supervised and progressive, 8-week strength training programmed with 45–50-minute sessions for three times a week. The study's findings revealed that there were significant statistical differences in the variables of weight, triglyceride variable (T.G.), and blood pressure variable. In low resistance intensity, the arithmetic mean for Triglyceride was observed to reduce from 235.67 to 201.67 (P=0.043), while in the medium resistance intensity group, the arithmetic means for Triglyceride was observed to reduce from 304.00 to 287.33 and Triglyceride in high resistance intensity group was observed from 291.33 to 279.33. The findings of this study support the proposed hypothesis of the study that physical activity via resistance training and exercise can be utilized to improve T.G. levels.
