RBC aggregability and deformability in residual umbilical cord blood
M. Mantskava, N. Momtselidze
Abstract: The problems related to the birth of premature infants deserve special attention. We propose an evaluation of the rheological RBC properties (RBC agregability and deformability) in the residual umbilical cord blood (RUCB). The aggregation of erythrocytes in RUCB samples of premature infants was 14.3±0.5%; versus 2.3±0.7% in the control group. The deformability of the erythrocyte membranes in RUCB samples of premature infants was equal to 2.10 ±0.5 conventional units; in the control group - 2.12±0.5. Аn assessment of the rheological status of the placenta suggests a complex state in the mother and child blood before delivery. Our results confirm a special attention to study factors regulating blood flow as well as to control parameters that determine blood circulation in premature newborns.
