Abstract: The paper presents an approach to numerical simulation of the mechanical behaviour of a plate for osteosynthesis. Two different approaches to the determination of the loads are used:
a) typical values of compression and torque loads are obtained from the human movement accelerogram;
b) realistic time-dependent loads are derived from the results of a human body kinematics simulation which is performed by specialized software.
A new design of the plate for osteosynthesis is analyzed by finite-element simulation. Both described approaches to loads definition are applied and results are compared. It is shown that usage of idealized compression and torque loads with appropriate load values (first approach) enables rather good estimation of the plate and screw strength. Strength of reviewed plate is analysed and design modifications are proposed.
