From modeling to therapy: Investigation of the impact of blood hyperviscosity on different aortic valve phenotypes and the potential role of cinnamomum
A. Boualianeorcid, L. Hamzaorcid
Abstract: Objective: This study examines the impact of blood viscosity variation on haemodynamic parameters as blood passes through the aortic valve during systole. Materials and methods: The simulation was performed in ANSYS Inc. software for three valve models: the three-leaflet tricuspid aortic valve (TAV), the two-leaflet bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), and the calcified valve, under three viscosity values. A multiphysics solution was proposed, combining a modified Carreau-Yasuda non-Newtonian model and the SST turbulence model. Results: The results indicate a typical decrease in mean velocity and mean shear rate between blood layers, accompanied by a corresponding increase in mean pressure for all three valve types at higher viscosity. The calcified valve exhibited the highest mean relative error of friction force along the X axis, while the BAV valve presented the greatest mean relative error values along the Y and Z axes. This work also proposes the use of Cinnamomum as a potential regulator of blood viscosity-related haemodynamic parameters, demonstrating its effectiveness in adjusting variations in blood flow caused by changes in viscosity. Discussion: The above findings indicate that blood viscosity increases haemodynamic resistance and affects flow dynamics in different ways according to the shape of the valve. Conclusion: Overall, blood viscosity is essential in regulating the behaviour of pressure, velocity, and shear rate.
