Abstract: This study focuses on performances at one of the most prestigious international competitions, the Olympic Games, as this event encompasses a wide range of sports and may best represent the overall sports systems in different countries, particularly Bulgaria. Objective: This study aims to identify the criteria and strategies for achieving the highest ranking in the Olympic Games. Material and methods: The study is conducted on a specific sports basis, utilising data and results from significant sports forums, such as the Olympic Games, and employing logical-deductive analysis to examine the current situation and future practical implementation strategies of Bulgarian sports federations. Results: Qualitative changes in the control system are necessary to address the main factors influencing sports achievement, given the capabilities of modern diagnostic and computing equipment. The inclusion of the entire Bulgarian sports-pedagogical and scientific potential in the Olympic training system for systematic scientific analysis, evaluation, and increased efficiency is crucial. Discussion and Conclusion: There is an imperceptible and almost irreversible return to the bygone era of empiricism and primitivism, which reduces the effectiveness of all system levels. Despite the state's earnest attempts, as represented by the Ministry of Sports and the academic community, the degradation process continues. The moment has arrived when palliative approaches and measures have exhausted the possibilities of maintaining the system's relative stability. Firstly, public authority should be reinstated to recognise science's leading role in addressing contemporary problems related to the intensive development of sports and physical education as an inherent property of modern democratic society.
