Splenectomy in the surgical treatment of gastric cancer: changes in the hematological and hemorheological parameters of blood cells
M. Mantskava, E. Labadze, A. Ttsalugelashvili, N.Narsiya, N. Momtselidze
Abstract: The surgical treatment of stomach cancer includes by gastrectomy or gastric resections – without or with splenectomy. The type of surgery depends on the presence or absence of distant metastases and tumor dissemination in the abdominal cavity. The frequency of gastric resections combined with splenectomy is 22.5 - 92.4% of the operations. We evaluated hemorheological and hematological parameters as biomarkers of inflammation and anemia, in cases of gastrectomy and after extended gastrectomy with splenectomy. Although the removal of the spleen leads to some changes in the humoral and cellular immunity of patients the study of the hematological and hemorheological parameters in the cases described are not critically different and thus are prognostically uninformative. For a comprehensive evaluation of cancer, the postoperative therapeutic effects of such treatment, it is necessary to enlarge and continued the studies proposed by us.
