Modelling vaccine quantity in mathematical models of melanoma treatment
S. Nikolov, M. Nenov
Abstract: Strengthening the immune system through immunotherapy and therapeutic vaccines in order to combat cancer is a fairly new and promising idea. In this paper we investigate the role of the type of vaccine (specifically those based on antigens and dendritic cells) in the regulation of melanoma micro-metastasis process. Towards this end, we expanded a model evaluating the interaction between the populations of cytotoxic T cells and melanoma M cells to account for the specifics of each type of vaccine and used predictive simulations to analyze it. Our data suggests that in the particular environment of the original mathematical model and its parameters, the two types of vaccines lead to similar results.
