Abstract: The best young researcher in the field of mechanics award (established and financed by Academician Yatchko Ivanov) has been given for the fifth time during the 13th National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (NCTAM), which was held 6-13th Sep. 2017 at the Institute of Mechanics, BAS in Sofia.
Over 35 young researchers, PhD and postdoctoral students presented their scientific achievements during the NCTAM Congress. Among them, dr. eng. Yavor Sofronov from the Techical University, Sofia was given the young researcher in the field of mechanics award for 2017.
In 2013 Acad. Ivanov established an award of 500 leva (BGN) to be granted annually to a young researcher for outstanding achievements in the field of mechanics. The prize is granted by a special jury, appointed by the National Committee of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The award has been given four times so far. In the competition for the best young researcher in the field of mechanics, everyone that has an academic position in an Institute or University, is up to 35 years of age and works in the field, is eligible to apply. The application deadline is September 30th of the current year.
Academician Yatchko Ivanov is honorable member of the Institute of Mechanics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and an internationally acknowledged scientist. His donations to the Institute of Mechanics and to the mechanics community throughout the years are especially noteworthy.
