The 13th National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics
E. Koytchev, N. Antonova
Abstract: The 13th National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, 13th NCTAM, was held in Sofia from 6th to 9th September 2017 in the Institute of Mechanics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Since its inception in 1969, the quadrennial National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (NCTAM) has become a major scientific event, gathering Bulgarian and foreign scientists and engineers from academia and industry. The congress was organized by the National Committee of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Institute of Mechanics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Co-organizers were: Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”, University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy - Sofia, Technical University of Sofia and Varna, University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy - Sofia, University of Forestry - Sofia, “Todor Kableshkov” Higher School of Transport, Sofia Higher School of Civil Engineering "Lyuben Karavelov" - Sofia. The Congress was dedicated to the fortieth anniversary of the Institute of Mechanics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The 13th NCTAM aimed to provide opportunities for researchers to present their latest results, to discuss new ideas and to establish a basis for future collaborations. The topics of the congress included General Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Robotics, Mechatronics, Biomechanics and other related fields. In addition, several mini-symposia on selected special topics were organised. During the National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, NCTAM a Mini-Symposium on “Biodynamics and Biorheology” was organized. Professors N. Antonova and R. Taiar from the Institute of Mechanics and UFR Sciences Exactes et Naturelles, University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, France, respectively, were co-organizers and chairpersons of this event.
The programme of the mini-symposium on Biodynamics and Biorheology included nine oral and two poster presentations delivered by participants from Agentina, Bulgaria and France, being specialist on Biomechanics, Medical Physics, dentistry, engineering, biothechnology, biology and mathematics. Some of the presented studies were done in collaboration with Russian and Japanese scientists. The topics of the reports were dedicated to the Analysis of the relationship between the rheological parameters of blood and vascular tone regulation disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2, hemorheological action of trigonelline on in vitro glycated red blood cells, viscoelastic alteration on red blood cells by in vitro action of propofol, evaluation of the elastic properties and topography of leukocytes’ surface in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using AFM microscopy, relation between the RBC suspensions’ conductivity and the orientation of erythrocytes under flow conditions and at electric field, computational analysis of red blood cell aggregation kinetics to obtain representative parameters in healthy donors, biomechanics of the immediate impact of wearing a rigid thoracolumbar corset on gait kinematics and spatiotemporal parameters, Signal transduction through a time delayed miRNA regulated element, Bonding performance of a newly developed experimental one-step adhesive on sound human dentin, study of non-linear viscoelastic behavior of the human red blood cell membrane and the role of nanoparticles on the kinetics of coagulation of conserved blood.
Another two mini-symposia dedicated to the problems of biofluidic mechanics and numerical modeling were organized at the Congress – “Biofluids Modelling Numerical Simulations and Application in Medicine” (Organizer Al.G.Kuchumov, Perm State National Research polytechnic University, Perm, Rusia) and “Computational Modeling of Arterial Aneurysms in Humans” (Prof. S. Tabakova, IMech-BAS). The results of the studies in the field of Biomechanics and Biomechatrons have been presents at the sessions on Biomechanics and Mechatronics too.
