Identification of explanted hernia meshes of unknown composition
D. Pashkouleva, M. Kirilova-Doneva, I. Borovanska, A.A. Apostolov, G. Petrova
Abstract: The identification of explanted hernia meshes of unknown composition was performed. Three different hernia meshes received from three patients were characterized by Image Analysis, Differential scanning calorimetry and Xray diffraction. The results showed information for pore size, pore shape, weight and material composition. The results presented in this study show that the explanted meshes are made of non-absorbable polymers as polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate.
