Резюме: Objective: This work attempts to develop a multifunctional Poly(Methyl-Methacrylate) biopolymer (PMMA)-based composite material with higher antimicrobial activity and improved mechanical properties. Materials and methods: The synthesis process consisted of incorporating 2 wt% of synthetic manganese and nickel nanooxides into a PMMA matrix. The prepared composites were characterized through several tests to determine the effect of the addition of both fillers on the structural and mechanical properties of the PMMA material. Results: It was found that the nanoparticles were evenly distributed in the matrix, resulting in an enhanced effect. The incorporation of NiO and Mn2O3 into PMMA can increase the hardness value by a factor of 21 and 13 respectively. They also reduced the coefficient of friction of PMMA from 0.6 to 0.2 and 0.15, respectively. In addition, tribological study show that the addition of manganese and nickel oxides increases the wear resistance of modified PMMA. Conclusion: Finally, this work shows that the addition of nanoparticles, especially NiO, significantly improves the mechanical properties and tribological behavior of the PMMA biopolymer.
