Electromyographic analysis of rectus femoris and biceps femoris during lunges on stable and unstable surfaces in university male players
S. Chaudhary, K. S. Akhilesh, S. Shenoy
Резюме: Objective: To examine and compare the EMG (electromyographic) activity of Rectus femoris and Biceps femoris muscles in leading leg during lunges on ground and on wobble board.
Methods: The study design was experimental- one-way repeated measures. Fifty-one healthy university male players who were playing field sports since last three years participated in the study. Surface EMG of Biceps femoris and Rectus femoris was obtained while subjects performed lunge exercises on stable surface (ground) and on unstable surface (wobble board). The amplified myoelectric signal, which was recorded during the exercises, was detected by the receiver-amplifier
Results: As data was not normally distributed so we applied median and IQR in descriptive statistics. For comparison purpose also we applied inferential procedure that is Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The difference in EMG activity of rectus femoris was statistically significant (p=.000) and it was more on stable surface. Same was the case with biceps femoris where the difference in EMG activity was also statistically significant (p=.000) and it was again higher on stable surface.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that stable surface lunges are recruiting more muscle fibres in rectus femoris and biceps femoris muscle than unstable surface.
