Резюме: Blood transport of respiratory gases and substrates for metabolism depends on its fluidity, which is the value of the inverse viscosity. At different rates of the shear flow, blood exhibits non-Newtonian properties. This affects its fluidity and transport potential. Since red blood cell (RBC) microrheological properties significantly affect blood viscosity, their positive changes could be adjusted non-Newtonian behaviour and transport efficiency. In turn, RBC microrheology can change under the influence of gaseous mediators or gasotransmitters (GTs). Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate alterations in the non-Newtonian flow properties of RBC suspension and cell microrheology under the influence of GT donors: sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and hydrogen hydrosulfide (NaHS).
Regression analysis showed that viscous flow of RBC suspension was described by a power law model of non-Newtonian fluid. When GT donors were added to a suspension of erythrocytes with standard hematocrit (Hct = 40%) and constant viscosity of the medium (1.30 mPas), the manifestation of its non-Newtonian properties significantly decreased. This was combined with a decrease in SV, red blood cell aggregation (RBCA) and an increase in their deformability (RBCD) from 8 no 34% (p<0.05). The correlation of the suspension viscosity with RBCD and RBCA was indicative of the effect on the non-Newtonian properties of the suspension and the RBC microrheological characteristics. Under the influence of GT donors, the degree of correlation of the above parameters was increased.
Thus, non-Newtonian flow properties are in a viscous flow of erythrocyte suspensions and can be positively modified under the influence of gasotransmitters. These changes are associated with the influence of gasotransmitters as signaling molecules on the red blood cell microrheology.
