Practical recommendations for application of hernia meshes
M. Doneva, D. Pashkouleva
Резюме: The aim of the study was to compare deformability of light mesh samples (TiO2MeshTM, ParietexTM, VyproTMII, Optilene®, UltraproTM) and standard mesh samples (SurgiproTM ,Surgimech® and Tecnomesh®) with deformability of the abdominal wall at physiological load levels at 10 N, 16 N, 22 N, 32 N, 47 N.
It was obtained that the standard meshes are strong enough and can be used in herniated abdominal wall where the load is in the interval 10 N - 47 N. The chosen light meshes did not withstand the load above 16 N. Only VyproTMII in one direction can be loaded up to 47 N.
The relationship between mesh weight and deformation at chosen load levels in the longitudinal and transversal direction were presented. The differences of deformability between both directions were between 2% - 30% for light meshes and 4% - 93 % for standard meshes. From all investigated meshes TiO2MeshTM was the most suitable for inguinal hernia repair, because at 16 N its deformability was in the interval 10% - 30%. At load 22 N and 32 N in human abdominal wall the deformation of investigated standard meshes exceed theoretical level of 40% in at least one direction.
