Distribution of the masticatory muscle forces of the dentofacial system during the creation of the bite force of the jaws at changing the number of considered muscles
V.N. Nikitin, V.M. Tverierorcid, P.N. Geletinorcid
Резюме: Researchers in many studies choose a certain number of the masticatory muscles in assessing the temporomandibular joint reactions (more often 8 or 16 muscles). Influence of the number of the masticatory muscles taken into account on the temporomandibular joint reactions and the muscle forces is analyzed in this paper. At the moment, the diagnostic methods do not allow us to determine the muscle forces in Newtons. There are several approaches about transition methods from electromyography data in mV to muscle force in Newtons. In this paper, 3 cases are analyzed: 1) all 28 masticatory muscles (both closing and opening muscles); 2) 16 muscles (opening muscles); 3) 8 muscles (the largest opening muscles). The muscle forces increase by approximately 2% in the transition from case 1 to case 2, and also value of the temporomandibular joint reaction decreases by almost 0.8%; the muscle forces increase by approximately an average of 20% in the transition from case 2 to case 3, and also the joint reaction is reduced by almost 19%. Thus, we can conclude that at least all the closing muscles should be considered, and ideally all the muscles for we did not have the opportunity to miss cases of overstrain of the opening muscles.
