Numerical analysis of femur bone by using finite element method

Резюме: Femur bone is one of the longest bone in a human body which has the highest chances of failure in an accident. The current study presents the exact amount of stress on the bone during the accident. Also, a possibility of bone failure is analyzed according to different age groups. The models of femur bone were obtained from computed tomography (CT) scan data, as this technique of scanning gives detailed structure and material properties of bone. The CT scan data gives the 2D model of bone which was converted into a 3D model by using Simpleware software tool. In this study, the tests were carried out on the sheep femur bone to analyze stresses and strains numerically by using a 3-point bending test. The resisting capacity of the femur bone is different for different age groups. As the age increases up to 5.5 years the load carrying capacities of the femur increases then decreases with increase in age for selected test conditions.
